Voitsberg Sacks Head Coach Zulechner
The former Bundesliga striker took on a head coaching position in professional football for the first time at the newly promoted second-tier club – now he has lost it again.
Coach dismissal in the ADMIRAL 2. Liga: ASK Voitsberg parts ways with Philipp Zulechner.
The former Bundesliga and national team player had only been in office at the promoted club since this summer. Currently, Voitsberg occupies twelfth place in the table, and in the last four games, the Styrians secured only one win from three defeats.
"Back then, we decided on Philipp Zulechner with full conviction. However, the sporting development of our first team and the results achieved did not meet our expectations," the club stated as the reason for Zulechner's dismissal.
Stefan Nutz will take over the role of head coach on an interim basis. He will be supported by assistant coach Lukas Zottler and Stephan Palla.
"Step Necessary at This Point"
Chairman Michael Münzer says about the decision: "As the club management, we bear responsibility for the sporting development and the future of our club. Therefore, from our perspective, it was necessary to make this decision. I thank Philipp for his commitment and wish him all the best for his personal and sporting future."
Sporting director Sebastian Szvetits adds: "After a careful analysis of the sporting situation and the development in recent weeks, we decided to make a change in the head coach position. We are convinced that this step is necessary at this point in time to provide new impetus."
Zulechner's First Professional Coaching Position
For Zulechner, Voitsberg was his first coaching station in professional football. Before that, the former striker worked as a coach at fourth-tier ASK Ybbs, before the coaching talent was hired by Kremser SC in July 2026.
Curiously: Zulechner left Kremser SC for Voitsberg without having stood on the sidelines for the Lower Austrians even once.
As a player, Zulechner completed 76 matches in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga for SV Grödig, Wiener Austria, and Sturm Graz. He scored 21 goals. In the 2013/14 season, the attacker finished third in the Bundesliga top scorer list and received a call-up to the national team from ÖFB head coach Marcel Koller.
In the friendly match against the USA in November 2013, Zulechner made his debut for Austria – however, it remained his only appearance in the ÖFB jersey. In 2018, he crowned his career by winning the UNIQA ÖFB Cup with Sturm Graz.
