ÖFB debutant Weinhandl: "I immediately called my mom"
The 17-year-old is very happy about his first-ever nomination. Should he play, he could become one of the youngest ÖFB players of all time.
At just 17 years old, Luca Weinhandl was called up to the ÖFB national team for the first time by Ralf Rangnick.

Should the midfielder play in one of the two Nations League matches against Ireland and Israel, he would rank among the top ten youngest ÖFB players of all time.
Rapid Ascent
As Weinhandl revealed to the "Kleine Zeitung", he learned of the nomination through a call from Ralf Rangnick. "I have to say, I was very happy that I'll be there," says the youngster.
Once the conversation with the national team coach was over, the next call followed immediately: "I hung up and then immediately called my mom."
Weinhandl's nomination is the next step in the midfielder's rapid ascent. Within a year, he developed from an U17 national player to a key player at Sturm Graz and now to a senior national player.
