Man United relieved after comeback: "The club needed the win"
The English record champions pulled off a spectacular comeback against AS Roma. This has temporarily saved head coach Michael Carrick's job.
For 58 minutes on Tuesday evening at Old Trafford, it looked as if Manchester United would fail to win for the tenth consecutive time against AS Roma.
After a brace from Mathias Soule and Donyell Malen, Roma took an early 2-0 lead, but United captain Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha turned the game around in favour of Carrick's side (to the match report>>>).
Carrick relieved after victory
The head coach of the "Red Devils" expressed his relief after the match; his job is at least temporarily safe. In case of a defeat, calls for his dismissal would likely have grown even louder.
"I think we showed a lot of character as a team by coming through everything that was thrown at us," said the 45-year-old after the match.
"There were many lies"
United captain and goalscorer Bruno Fernandes also spoke in an interview with "Amazon Video" after the game. Among other things, he discussed his relationship with the coach, who benched him eleven days ago in the 0-3 defeat against AFC Bournemouth.
"It was tough, there was a lot of speculation in the media. There were many lies about various things that happened between me and the coach," said Fernandes, who also spoke about the game.
"We don't have to save anyone's job. The club needed this win, the players needed this win. We worked so hard to get out of this situation together," said the Portuguese international.
Another top club, Aston Villa, awaits him and his teammates on the upcoming matchday, the last before the international break. Subsequently, the "Red Devils" will visit FC Liverpool on November 22nd.
