Why Wimmer had to come off at halftime against LASK

The Upper Austrian native experienced a return that absolutely did not go to plan. To make matters worse, his workday was already over after 45 minutes:

Kevin Wimmer certainly envisioned his "return" to LASK completely differently.

Against his "beloved club", the Austrian international lost 0:4 with Slovan Bratislava. The guests from Slovakia had no chance against LASK, apart from a decent opening phase.

Wimmer himself had good actions, especially in the first few minutes. However, he also conceded the free-kick from which Kasper Jörgensen scored the 2:0.

However, the central defender was not substituted at halftime due to his performance, as he explained after the match: "Unfortunately, I felt a twinge in my adductors in the 20th minute, and I believe it will most likely be a muscle fiber tear."

"A shame that this had to happen as well"

After that, he took a painkiller. It didn't really help: "I could barely feel my foot, my adductor – or it felt like it was gone. That's why it's a shame that this had to happen in such a game."

Because Wimmer's "home game" in Linz was attended by both his entire family and friends. Seeing his family after the match "was still the best part of the whole evening," he said.

Little understanding of the approach

Slovan ultimately had little to offer in this Champions League game, just like against PSG (1:6), Stuttgart (0:3), and Roma (0:4).

"I believe we were miles away from a point," stated the former LASK and Rapid player.

Wimmer had already emphasized in an interview with 90minuten a few days before the match that LASK would be going into the game as favorites.

Additionally, a system change was implemented on Tuesday evening. "We tried to play with a back five for the first time in the Champions League today – but we left four or five regular starters on the bench," said the Austrian.

"Es ist schon ein bisschen fraglich, wenn man sich für die Champions League qualifiziert, nach Linz fährt und dann nicht die beste Mannschaft aufstellt."

Slovan is now shifting its focus more towards the league, "because we are not in the best position there either."

Nevertheless, Wimmer believes: "It's a bit questionable when you qualify for the Champions League, travel to Linz, and then don't field your best team."

"I don't know why that decision is made – you just have to accept it," said Wimmer, who describes it as a "strange feeling."
