The first half was largely uneventful. However, the first major chance of the game saw the ball hit the woodwork (30'). Linz's Weinhauer fought his way into the opponent's penalty area and shot from a position on the right. The ball struck the left inside post and rebounded back onto the pitch.
Aside from Ronivaldo's injury-forced substitution, little happened in this half. The teams were tactically well-matched, resulting in a cagey affair.
Linz Creates More Chances
For a long time, nothing much happened in the second half either. It wasn't until the 63rd minute that Kreiker spotted Frieser, who shot just over the St. Pölten goal. Shortly after, Vucic also had an opportunity from 16 meters but failed to score the opening goal.
Substitute Grimbs had a clear-cut chance for Linz after a fine move. From ten meters out, he missed the target. He made amends deep in injury time (90.+5), as Ruschke's ball found its way to the new signing, who slotted it home to secure a late victory for the visitors.
Blau-Weiß Linz remains victorious. The Upper Austrians lead the table with nine points, while SKN has so far picked up zero points from three matches and is currently in 15th place.
