Widhölzl Asked His ÖSV Eagles If He Could Continue
Andreas Widhölzl is entering his seventh season as ÖSV head coach. The Tyrolean talks about his relationship with his team and his future.
Andreas Widhölzl is entering his seventh season as head coach of the Austrian ski jumpers. Nevertheless, the Tyrolean is already thinking about his future.
It's not just about his own perspective, but also about the satisfaction of his athletes.
Support from ÖSV Eagles
"Can you still imagine it with me?", Widhölzl asked the ÖSV ski jumpers and supervisors before the start of the season.
The answer from his protégés was overwhelmingly positive. "The athletes said they couldn't imagine a better head coach," Widhölzl recounted in the "Kurier".
For the now 50-year-old, this is, of course, a great compliment. However, putting the athletes first is Widhölzl's top priority. As long as they feel comfortable and the coach enjoys his work, he wants to continue.
"It's Clear I Have an Expiration Date"
Nevertheless, the Tyrolean knows that his time as head coach is not unlimited. "But it's clear to me that I'll have an expiration date at some point," Widhölzl said.
Should he eventually no longer approach the task with the same passion, he would have to draw the necessary conclusions, as he himself emphasized.
However, his passion for ski jumping is currently unabated. Even after his time as head coach, Widhölzl wants to remain involved in ski jumping and "would also like to work with young jumpers," he says.
