Zajc Levels Sharp Criticism at Summer GP: "Competitions Without Competition"

Not only was the field of participants decisive for his non-participation in any competition, but the hills were also too small, according to the Slovenian.

Timi Zajc levels strong criticism at the Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix.

The Slovenian, who did not participate in any of the competitions, complains that there is too little competition and the hills are too small. He also lacked motivation.

"I miss the competitions a little, but not those in the summer. We know that the Summer Grand Prix competitions were without competition, there were few jumpers at the start, and I didn't have the right motivation to go there. The hills were also very small," he is quoted by "Zurnal24.si".

Prevc and Co. Compete in Continental Cup

The dominator of last winter, Domen Prevc, competed in the Continental Cup, as did, for example, Anze Lanisek. The overall ranking, however, was won by Austrian Clemens Aigner. He also secured a quota spot for the upcoming winter for the Austrian Eagles (more here >>>).

Zajc plans to compete in his first competition in Klingenthal. The Summer Grand Prix final will take place there. He says that "more or less everyone is already well prepared and has the right competition equipment."

Nevertheless, he does not attach great importance to the competition: "Even if you finish 20th in the Grand Prix, it doesn't mean anything for the winter," he said at a team presentation.

Comparison with Austrians

It is also interesting that, according to Zajc, Austrian jumpers were guests at a training session, but he cannot yet assess where he stands in comparison to the competition.

The 26-year-old struggled last season. At the end of the season, he only managed 27th place in the overall standings. At the Four Hills Tournament, he had to watch from the sidelines after two stops due to a red card.

Nevertheless, he has moved on from the past. "After the end of last season, I made an effort to completely block out the jumps for a while and put them aside. Now it's much easier because we're starting from scratch. I quickly forgot what happened last year," he concludes.

For ski jumpers, winter begins on November 20 with a mixed team competition in Lillehammer.
