Norwegian Ski Jumper Announces Surprise Retirement
The 27-year-old Norwegian once reliably scored World Cup points. Now he announces the end of his career.
Norwegian Fredrik Villumstad has surprisingly announced the end of his ski jumping career.
The 27-year-old recently competed at the Norwegian Championships in Oslo. However, a lack of motivation has prompted him to call it quits, as he revealed via social media.
"Path Is Too Long and Too Demanding"
"I have come to understand that the path to fulfilling further dreams and achieving more goals is too long and too demanding for my motivation to be sufficient for the continued fight," Villumstad stated.
"Nevertheless, I am proud of the dreams I was able to realize and the goals I have achieved," explained the Norwegian.
Once a Junior World Champion
Villumstad was once a Junior World Champion in the mixed team event in 2018. In the World Cup, the Norwegian scored points multiple times. His best World Cup result is ninth place. He achieved this rank in Oslo in 2022 and in Wisla in 2024.
He competed in his last World Cup jump in Planica in 2025. Last winter, he did not participate in any World Cup events.
