Johannes Aigner Temporarily Steps Away
The multiple Para-Ski Olympic champion wants to dedicate himself to other challenges. A return is uncertain.
After a successful past season, Johannes Aigner is temporarily ending his career and taking a break from para-skiing.
The 21-year-old from Lower Austria wants to concentrate on his education in the coming months and turn his back on elite sports for a year.
After that, Aigner wants to decide at his own pace how his sporting career will continue.

“After much deliberation, I have decided not to compete in the World Cup this year and to take a break. Now is the right time for me to take a step back and concentrate on my high school diploma (Matura). That has fallen by the wayside in recent years, and I've realized that I now want to dedicate more time to my education. I want to consciously take this year, without already knowing what will happen afterward. After this break, I will decide if and in what form I will return to elite sports,” explains Johannes Aigner.
Together with his guide Nico Haberl, he won all five possible Crystal Globes in the World Cup, including the overall World Cup and the standings in Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom, and Slalom. In total, he celebrated 16 World Cup victories.
Aigner was also in top form at the Paralympic Winter Games in Milan and Cortina 2026.
On the Tofana, he won gold in Downhill, Super-G, and Giant Slalom. He also secured bronze in the Alpine Combined.
