Planned World Championship Revolution: Olympic Champion Klæbo Expresses Criticism
After FIS announced plans to hold the Nordic Ski World Championships annually, the Norwegian expresses his concerns.
FIS continues to provide plenty of discussion with the planned World Championship revolution.
Currently, plans are being reviewed to hold the title competitions annually in the future. Only Olympic years would be exempt. Previously, the World Championships took place every two years.
Now, Olympic champion Johannes Høsflot Klæbo speaks out. "I like new ideas and normally I support changes. Nevertheless, my first thought is that I am skeptical of an annual World Championship," he explained to Norwegian TV broadcaster "NRK".
The 29-year-old would have the chance for even more medals with more World Championships. At the 2025 World Championships, he went home with six golds. Additionally, since 2019, he has always claimed first place at least three times.
Klæbo Expresses Concerns
"A World Championship should be rare enough to mean something. I am not convinced that biathlon is doing the right thing with its annual World Championship," Klæbo criticizes. In this sport, a World Championship is already held annually.
Nevertheless, he is not ruling it out for now: "Although I am skeptical, I will be ready for an annual World Championship. Time will tell us whether it's a good idea or not," the Norwegian concluded.
