ÖSV Talent Suffered Two Cardiac Arrests and Fell into a Coma

Huge shock for ÖSV cross-country skier Katharina Engelhardt!

The 18-year-old promising talent collapsed during training and had to be resuscitated. She suffered a cardiac arrest twice.

Engelhardt was resuscitated and admitted to the hospital in Linz. She subsequently lay in a coma for four days.

Engelhardt Gives Update via Social Media

In the meantime, there is good news – from Engelhardt herself. The 18-year-old cross-country skier gives an update via Instagram:

"Even the very good doctors in Linz thought I wouldn't make it. But they were wrong, because I did."

The reason for the cardiac arrest was myocarditis due to an infection. The doctors reacted and implanted a defibrillator in the young Styrian.

Career Over

Her great career in competitive sports is thus already over for Engelhardt before it even truly began.

On July 26, the Styrian will turn 19. The fact that she will even live to see her 19th birthday is already nothing short of a miracle.

"Without God's help, I would not have made it through this again. He is a God who performs miracles! Even today," said the 18-year-old.
