Break from the Slopes: Biathlete Expecting a Baby
After a coaching change, the Slovenian aimed to compete strongly in the World Cup – now the former cross-country skier is taking an unexpected break.
Anamarija Lampic will not compete in the upcoming biathlon winter.
As the 31-year-old announced on social media, she and her boyfriend Bostjan Klavzar are expecting a child. "This year, the season will be a little different – full stop," she wrote on Instagram.
After a challenging Olympic season with 66th place in the overall World Cup and 17th as her best individual result, Lampic spoke of the "low point of my sports career." Despite that, in 2024/25, she still achieved two podium finishes and 20th place in the overall World Cup.
After a coaching change in the summer, the former cross-country skier had hoped for a turnaround.
In Biathlon Since 2022
The Slovenian made a somewhat surprising switch to biathlon in 2022. Previously, she had won three World Championship medals and Olympic silver at the Youth Games in Innsbruck in 2012 in cross-country skiing, and secured the small crystal globe in the sprint World Cup in the 2020/21 season.
Also not competing in the upcoming season will be Sweden's Hanna Öberg: The double Olympic champion announced her pregnancy almost two weeks ago.
