Samuel Adeniran always knew it.

"Yes, 100 percent!", the American explains when asked if he could ever have imagined playing in the Champions League with LASK when he moved to Austria almost two years ago.

Now it has actually happened. Adeniran, who already showed prophetic abilities last autumn when he declared he wanted to win titles with LASK, even though the Linz team was second to last shortly before, blasted his "Athletes" into the "Champions League" on Tuesday with two dream goals.

"I won't sleep all week"

"I believed we could do it. When you actually achieve it, it's an incredible feeling," said the 27-year-old after the 5-1 win after extra time against Celtic (Match report>>>).

He adds: "I won't sleep tonight, honestly, I don't think I'll ever sleep all next week. But that's okay."

Previously Unprecedented Efficiency

After six games this season, the powerful striker already has seven goals. Such efficiency was not known from him until now.

When he joined Linz in January 2025, the Texan late bloomer, who tried to assert himself in lower-tier leagues in Portugal, Spain, and Germany early in his career and only made his MLS debut at 22, quickly showed a lot of potential.

Kühbauer Shaped Him into a Top Striker

At the same time, Adeniran still seemed very "raw" in many of his actions and missed countless chances. For the 2025/26 season, especially from the moment Dietmar Kühbauer took over as coach, things seemed to improve significantly.

Adeniran says: "I always knew that God blessed me with the necessary ability. It was just about implementing it on the field."

"Samu can do many things well, but in the first year, he didn't do them well. When I arrived, I tried to get every player on board and analyze honestly. For me, it's very important that every player knows what I like and what I don't," Kühbauer explains.

Dream Goal with the "Gas Foot"

"Den rechten Fuß hat er eigentlich nur zum Gas geben. Früher hätte er das nie gemacht."

His most obvious new strength is his clinicality. On Tuesday, he first scored beautifully with the inside of his strong left foot and then finally netted the decisive goal in extra time from a considerable distance with his right.

"He also learned that; he actually only uses his right foot to hit the accelerator. He would never have done that before; it's also a further development of his footballing quality," his coach enthuses.

However, the Burgenländer is not entirely satisfied with Adeniran: "I'm still very annoyed that he missed the penalty, because that made our hearts beat faster."

"One day I'll be able to tell my children..."

Perhaps the American will get a chance for redemption in the Champions League and at the same time the opportunity to recommend himself, late but surely, for a transfer to a top league.

Adeniran has no preferred opponent. "No matter who we are drawn against, it will be a world-class team. One day I'll be able to tell my children that I played against such a team."
