In late July, ski star Henrik Kristoffersen and his wife Tonje became parents for the second time.

On July 25, daughter Linnea saw the light of day. However, the birth did not go without complications, as is now being reported.

As Kristoffersen told the Norwegian newspaper "Dagbladet", a clot formed in a blood vessel in his wife's fallopian tube. Doctors spoke of a "very, very rare phenomenon".

Kristoffersen: "I feared for my wife"

For the ski star, these were anxious hours. "It was never extremely dramatic, but I feared for my wife," Henrik Kristoffersen is quoted as saying by the newspaper.

The good news: Doctors acted quickly, treating Tonje with a blood thinner injection. Although she had to remain in the hospital for a while, "she is now back home and doing well," reports the skier living in Salzburg.

The couple did not make the decision to go public with the story lightly.

"We're not saying this to elicit sympathy. We decided it's okay to talk about it. Because life isn't always a walk in the park."
