Julia Scheib receives "special speed training"
Last season, the Styrian native was the world's best giant slalom skier; now, a big step forward is also expected in Super-G.
By winning the small crystal globe in giant slalom, Julia Scheib fulfilled a dream in the past Ski World Cup season.
Meanwhile, the focus is already fully on the upcoming season. "I'm fully in build-up training," she explains to the "Tiroler Tageszeitung". "What we train now is what we live off the whole winter."
With Hannes Zöchling, the ÖSV women have a new head coach, but the training group (WC3) remains the same for Scheib, so she hasn't felt any major changes yet.
More Focus on Super-G
However, she wants to push one change herself this summer: The goal is "more focus on Super-G".
This naturally also means more focus on speed training. The overseas program is also designed for this: "We start in Argentina, after two weeks I'm off to Chile for special speed training. It was my wish, because I want to develop further and participate in everything."
Energy Balance? Logistics?
Scheib, who won Super-G silver at the Junior World Championships in 2019, knows where she still needs to catch up compared to the world's best speed skiers:
"I already know that I have to improve. If a Super-G is technically more difficult, then I can certainly get something out of it. Otherwise, I still have a lot to do."
She has no concerns that the focus on Super-G could affect her giant slalom performance: "The two disciplines complement each other well."
But she also has to admit: "It will be interesting to see how I manage all of this in terms of energy balance and logistics."
