Season Start in Jeopardy: Here's the Latest on Goggia's Health

Sofia Goggia is at risk of missing the season opener in Sölden.

After the Super-G World Cup winner had to depart from the training camp in Argentina, the Italian Ski Federation (FISI) is now providing an update on the 33-year-old's health.

Following examinations at the private clinic La Madonnina and the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, "two different viral infections were detected, whose combination further intensified the physical effects and led to a severe weakening of the athlete," states the federation's website.

Rehabilitation Program Has Already Begun

However, the speed specialist has already "begun the rehabilitation program." As her coach Gianluca Rulfi recently told "Gazzetta dello Sport," she "was fast in training." In addition to Super-G and giant slalom, she had even trained slalom.

Last season, Goggia won bronze in downhill at the Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina and also secured her first career Super-G World Cup title.
