Swiss Ski Icon Dies
Lauberhorn winner Walter Tresch has passed away at the age of 78.
Swiss ski legend Walter Tresch passed away last Saturday.
His family announced that the former ski racer peacefully passed away at home at the age of 78 after a long illness.
In the 1970s, Tresch was among the world's elite. He won a total of four World Cup races. He secured his first victory surprisingly in St. Moritz in 1971, starting with bib number 39. This was followed by three combined victories in Garmisch, Kitzbühel, and Wengen.
Tresch also won silver in the combined event at the 1972 Ski World Championships.
