Technical Ace Vinatzer Trains with Ice Hockey Club
Alex Vinatzer celebrated his "comeback" on the ice after 18 years.
Italian technical ace Alex Vinatzer is trying his hand at ice hockey.
Before preparations for the new ski season continue, the 26-year-old trained with HC Gröden. The South Tyrolean ice hockey club competes in the Alps Hockey League.
On Thursday, Vinatzer participated as a guest in a training session with Gröden's senior team, as reported by "SportNews.bz".
"My First Shot Went Straight In"
In his childhood, the ski racer still played ice hockey. But at the age of eight, he opted for the ski slope. After an approximately 18-year break, during which he only rarely picked up an ice hockey stick, he apparently didn't cut a bad figure.
"My first shot went straight in, but after that, there were no more goals," said Vinatzer, who enjoyed training with the Gröden players: "I gave it my all and was completely exhausted after training. But I would love to do this every year from now on."
On Sunday, Vinatzer will continue his preparation for the new Alpine skiing season. The 26-year-old travels to Ushuaia (Argentina), where the Italian A-team will prepare for the upcoming winter until mid-September.
