Sinja Kraus bows out early in Cincinnati
The ÖTV player is defeated by her American opponent and is eliminated in the first round.
Sinja Kraus had to bow out early at the WTA-1000 Cincinnati tournament.
The ÖTV player lost to American Sloane Stephens in the first round with a score of 5:7, 3:6.
Close first set...
The first set was a tight affair. Kraus initially held her serves well but suffered a break at 4:4.
However, she immediately managed a re-break, only to lose her serve again in the subsequent game. Stephens then served out the set.
...late fightback
In the second set, Kraus was broken at 2:2. At 3:5, the Austrian mounted another fightback, but she squandered two break points and ultimately had to concede the match.
This leaves Anastasia Potapova as the last remaining ÖTV player in the competition; she will now face Stephens, who defeated Kraus.
