First tournament victory 2026! Swiatek ends long dry spell
The Pole wins the Masters event in Toronto, sending a strong signal just weeks before the US Open.
Former world number one Iga Swiatek has secured her first tennis tournament victory this year with the WTA 1000 title in Toronto.
The Pole defeated Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in the final, needing just 75 minutes for the win against the Australian Open champion.
With this victory, Swiatek, currently ranked fifth in the WTA world rankings, makes a statement shortly before the US Open. The 25-year-old had performed rather disappointingly in previous Grand Slam tournaments, having been eliminated as early as the third round at Wimbledon.
In Montreal, American Ben Shelton defended his ATP 1000 title from last year with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win against fellow countryman Brandon Nakashima (More Info>>>).
