Neumayer retires in Todi quarterfinals
The Salzburg native ends his match prematurely in the first set.
An early end for Lukas Neumayer at the ATP Challenger in Todi.
Against Argentine Alex Barrena (ATP No. 259), the Salzburg native retired with the score at 1:5.
At 1:1, the 23-year-old himself had a chance to break. The subsequent games were all close and hard-fought but went to the Argentine. When Neumayer suffered the break to make it 1:5, the ÖTV talent retired and played no further point. The reasons are still unclear.
In April, Neumayer had been struggling with back problems and had to prematurely cancel his USA tour and fly back to Europe.
