Ried: Between Derby Frustration and Further Development

SV Ried is still waiting for their first full success in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. After a draw to start the season, the Innviertler suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Upper Austria derby against LASK (for the match report >>>).

SV Ried was on track for a derby win after nine minutes: Following a LASK error in build-up play, starting XI debutant Pape Sissoko slotted in for the lead.

"We really got into the game well," analyzed Ried coach Mario Despotovic in an interview with "Sky". But similar to the match against SK Rapid, a goal conceded followed promptly. "It's just unlucky when you concede a goal immediately after scoring our own. I think we could have defended the space behind the defense better there," the 41-year-old said critically.

Radonjic: "In a derby, you have to fight much more"

New signing Dejan Radonjic also couldn't provide the necessary stability to Ried's defense on his starting XI debut. He attributes the goals conceded to a lack of intensity. "We conceded goals too easily. We have to defend that better," the 20-year-old clarified to "Sky".

SV Ried had problems with LASK's fast forwards throughout the entire match. "We should have been better in defending in depth, and I believe that our rest defense is something we need to work on," summarized the coach.

Dejan Radonjic critically commented on the team's attitude after the final whistle: "I think in a derby, you have to fight much more, show more intensity, play more with heart. We didn't manage that today." For Andreas Leitner, the lack of willingness to engage in tackles and "individual errors" were decisive for the derby defeat.

"...Not the best game to develop that further"

The plan to bring in Pape Sissoko, a classic striker who occupies a center-back, worked in phases. Why then did Ried rarely get into dangerous areas? "Because the opponent shifted very well. We could have played a bit faster, of course, to make that work even better," said Ried's head coach.

In attack, the 41-year-old still sees great development potential overall: "I am aware that when you play away against such a strong opponent, that's not the best game to develop that further. We will do better in the future. I believe it was because we need to execute that more clearly, more efficiently. We also want to have better positions in the final third and be even more dangerous."
