After Massombo's strike: Altach issues statement
The Bundesliga club speaks out after recent media reports about midfielder Yann Massombo and confirms them.
Just before SCR Altach's departure for the Bundesliga match against SK Sturm Graz, there was unrest!
Midfielder Yann Massombo refused to board the bus, thus aiming to force a transfer to their upcoming opponent (All info >>>).
Now SCR Altach itself has issued a statement on the matter and confirms Friday's media reports: "Massombo decided not to travel to tomorrow's away match against SK Sturm Graz. Massombo had previously participated in the final training session and only communicated his decision afterwards," it states.
Contact with the player, but no offer
"The player cited a desire to transfer as the reason. As it turned out afterwards, Sturm has reportedly been in contact with Massombo for weeks and also made contact with him this morning. Attempts by the club to persuade the player to travel were unsuccessful," the Altach club further writes.
SCR Altach also clarifies that, to date, no official inquiry or offer for the player has been received from any club.
Sturm's reaction:
In response to a LAOLA1 inquiry, SK Sturm states that they would never encourage a player to strike. However, the club also confirms that Massombo has been on the Graz team's radar for weeks and they are considering a transfer.
