Ex-ÖSV Star Hannes Reichelt Seriously Injured in Accident
The long-serving ÖSV top speed skier suffered a fractured femoral neck in a cycling accident.
Hannes Reichelt certainly didn't imagine his holiday at home like this!
The 46-year-old sustained a fractured femoral neck in a fall while road cycling over the weekend and had to undergo surgery.
The former speed specialist for the Austrian ski team announced this on Instagram. The operation in Schladming went smoothly, and now it's about getting fit again, bit by bit – something he knows all too well from his professional career.
"For now, it’s about patience, rest, diligently doing rehab exercises, and gradually regaining more strength and mobility in the leg," Reichelt said.
The Salzburg native was active in the Ski World Cup for 20 years before announcing his retirement from professional sports in 2021. During that time, he celebrated 13 World Cup victories, including the 2014 Downhill on the Streif in Kitzbühel. He also won the Super-G World Cup in 2007/08 and became Super-G World Champion in 2015.
