The Mountain Classic in Bischofshofen will have to do without the Carinthian Derby KAC vs. VSV.
Nevertheless, the two traditional clubs will be part of the open-air spectacle in January 2027. As announced by the win2day ICE Hockey League, the pairings were swapped due to "logistical and event-related reasons."
For VSV, the game would have been a lucrative home duel, which therefore would not have taken place in their own arena. After no solution was found regarding compensation that was acceptable to both sides, a match in Bischofshofen is now off the table.
Instead of the derby, the matchups will be VSV - Black Wings Linz (January 30) and EC Red Bull Salzburg - KAC (January 31). The Mountain Classic will be held at the ski jumping hill in Bischofshofen.
