Parents of Deceased Skier Raise Serious Allegations

It has now been just over a year since the tragic accident involving Italian Matteo Franzoso.

The young ski racer died in a fall during a training camp in Chile (More on this >>>). Now, his parents are raising serious allegations against the Italian federation.

"The silence of the ski world, in which Matteo grew up, kills us twice over. The federation has abandoned us. In twelve months, they have neither written to us nor involved us. It's unbelievable," the parents explained to the Italian newspaper "La Repubblica."

Parents Address Critical Words to Teammates

They added: "In one year, everything has stood still; not a single step has been taken to clarify accountability for what happened."

Discussions about safety in skiing were ended too quickly, and safety precautions in Chile are still insufficient. The barrier Franzoso crashed into has since been removed.

Furthermore, the parents are disappointed with the behavior of their son's teammates. "Do you think the athletes said anything? One of them died on the slope where they all train, and they can't find the strength to come together and demand more attention to safety," they said. This was not limited to his specific sports group.

Franzoso made his Weltcup debut in December 2021. The speed specialist scored points twice.
