Dorothea Wierer has a new job on German television
The former biathlete from South Tyrol joins ARD's Sportschau expert team, succeeding Erik Lesser.
Dorothea Wierer is moving from the cross-country track to the TV studio.
The South Tyrolean, who ended her successful career after the past season, joins the expert team of Sportschau (ARD), succeeding Erik Lesser (GER), who wishes to focus on his coaching activities.
"I'm a bit proud to now become part of this team myself and, as a South Tyrolean, to stand alongside Magdalena Neuner and Kati Wilhelm as an ARD expert," the 36-year-old is quoted in an ARD press release.
Italian was "preferred candidate"
For the public broadcaster, the former athlete was the "preferred candidate," as sports coordinator Axel Balkausky emphasizes.
Wierer is one of the most successful biathletes of recent years. In addition to two overall World Cups (2018/19 and 2019/20), the South Tyrolean has won four World Championship titles (a total of twelve medals) and four Olympic medals.
