Ski star Dominik Paris is currently preferring to focus on his fitness program at home. He doesn't want to go to South America (yet).

Italy's ski team will depart for South America in the coming days to complete their preparations for the upcoming World Cup winter.

Kitzbühel winner Giovanni Franzoni, for example, will start his training in Ushuaia (Argentina) from mid-August. The situation is different for Dominik Paris. Unlike his teammates, he is skipping the trip to Ushuaia.

"For me, it makes no sense to train on the glacier under these conditions," the 37-year-old speed specialist explained to the daily newspaper "Alto Adige." "I prefer to stay at home and complete my fitness program."

Paris will only join in Chile

He hasn't made the trip to Ushuaia in recent years either. However, this also has to do with the fact that the icy slopes in the Argentinian ski resort are more suited for giant slalom and slalom training.

"I'm not going to slide around on the ice; you only scratch your skis there," Paris commented with a wink.

However, the winner of 20 World Cup downhill races will not stay away from South America entirely this year. Speed training is scheduled for September in Chile.
