Austria's number one was decisively defeated overnight from Thursday to Friday in her third-round clash at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto, losing 1-6, 1-6 to ninth-seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, who was a semi-finalist at the Australian Open.

This marks her second decisive defeat against Svitolina, following a loss in the Round of 32 in Monterrey in 2022.

Rain caused some chaos in Toronto. The match concluded in just one hour.
