Dominant! Potapova in Toronto Reaches Round of 32
After defeating a Romanian player, she will face the world No. 9 in the next round.
Anastasia Potapova is in the Round of 32 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto.
After a first-round bye, the 24th-seeded Austrian defeated Elena Gabriela Ruse (WTA-77.) from Romania 6:4, 6:2.
The first set was close. The lead constantly changed between the competitors. After 4:4, however, the Austrian secured a break and then served out the game.
The world No. 27 carried the momentum forward. She broke Ruse's serve right at the start. She was also able to dictate the pace and impress with her returns. With a 6:2, she sealed the victory after 1:45 hours of play.
In the Round of 32, Potapova will face world No. 9, Elina Svitolina (UKR).
