In 56 Minutes: Potapova Exits Washington Round of 16
The Austrian woman was eliminated at the WTA tournament in Washington against a top-20 player. In the first round, she still defeated tennis icon Venus Williams.
Anastasia Potapova has been eliminated in the Round of 16 at the WTA 500 tournament in Washington.
The Austrian woman was clearly defeated 1:6, 2:6 by Russian Daria Schnaider in the early hours of Friday (CEST).
After her commanding opening victory against 46-year-old US legend Venus Williams, Potapova had no real chance against the world number 18. Two breaks by Schnaider in the first set already proved decisive early on.
Potapova also found no answer against her opponent in the second set. She was broken four times and could only manage two breaks back.
After just 56 minutes, Schnaider converted her first match point, thus securing her spot in the quarterfinals. There, the Russian will face her unseeded compatriot Ljudmila Samsonowa.
