Impressive! ÖTV talent Pircher reaches Wimbledon quarter-finals
The 16-year-old from Tyrol came back from a set down in her third match and thus reaches a Junior Grand Slam quarter-final for the first time.
Anna Pircher continues her successful run at Wimbledon!
The 16-year-old Tyrolean reached the quarter-finals of the girls' singles event on Wednesday.
Although Pircher lost the first set against British local favourite Daniella Britton 6:7(4), she turned the match around in impressive fashion with 6:1, 6:1.
This marks the third time in three matches that the Tyrolean has turned a set deficit into a victory.
Now against the tournament's top seed?
The reward is a spot in the Wimbledon quarter-finals – achieved in her first appearance at a Junior Grand Slam event.
Her opponent in the quarter-finals could be top-seeded Chinese player Xinran Sun (WTA-620.), who faces Thea Frodin (USA/WTA-595.) in her round of 16 match.
Pircher will therefore definitely face an opponent ranked higher than her in the senior world rankings. However, in the second round, the Tyrolean already eliminated a favoured opponent in Mika Stojsavljevic (GBR/WTA-276.).
