Misolic's US Open Journey Ends in First Round
The Austrian is defeated by the tournament's 24th seed.
Opening defeat for Filip Misolic!
The 25-year-old from Graz loses in the first round of the US Open against Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo with a score of 4:6, 3:6, and 5:7.
The tournament's 24th seed lived up to his role as favorite. However, Misolic, the world number 537, put up a good fight. The Styrian even managed a break in the first set, but Cerundolo broke him twice in return.
Misolic Refuses to Give Up
In the second set, however, Misolic had to surrender his own serve three times, putting him already 0:2 down in sets after just under an hour and a half.
Even in the decisive third set, the favorite from Argentina was the better player, but Misolic gave him a tough fight until the very end. At 3:5, he even managed to get the break and served to level at 5:5.
After that, however, Cerundolo kept his composure, held his serve, and broke Misolic to win 7:5. After 2 hours and 15 minutes, he converted his first match point.
