Schwärzler Battles His Way into Challenger Round of 16 in Manacor
The young Vorarlberg native had a long fight but ultimately advances to the next round.
Opening success for Joel Schwärzler!
The Vorarlberg native narrowly defeated Max Basing (Great Britain) 6:3, 6:7(4), 6:4 in the first round of the ATP Challenger in Manacor.
In the first set, the tournament's eighth seed clearly had the upper hand thanks to two breaks. The second set proved much more exciting, also because the world No. 259 managed two breaks early on. The underdog won the tie-break.
In the decisive third set, Schwärzler kept his nerve, secured a late break at 4:4, and served for the win. He will now face the winner of the match between Potenza and Jorda Sanchis in the round of 16.
