A change at the top of the tennis world rankings could happen at the ATP Masters in Shanghai!

Due to persistent knee problems, Jannik Sinner has also withdrawn from Shanghai (starting October 7). The South Tyrolean announced this on social media on Saturday. Whether he will participate in the Erste Bank Open in Vienna is apparently still uncertain.

Sinner has not played a match since his final victory against Alexander Zverev at Wimbledon in July.

Big Opportunity for Zverev

This now presents a huge opportunity for the German to become the new world No. 1 in tennis. The two-time Grand Slam winner is now only 1,370 points behind Sinner.

If Zverev now wins the Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai and collects enough points beforehand in Beijing, he can become the first German world No. 1 since Boris Becker in 1991 after the Shanghai Masters.
