US Open: Sinner forced to withdraw from last Grand Slam
Jannik Sinner has to withdraw from the US Open due to a knee injury.
The world number one will not compete at the US Open this year.
Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the last Grand Slam of the year just over a week before its start. The previous year's finalist is still bothered by a knee injury.
"Although I've worked hard with my team and medical staff, we've had to make the difficult decision that I won't be able to participate in this year's US Open," the 25-year-old announced on social media.
Sinner: "Still Need Time"
"We've been back on court in Monte Carlo over the past few days and realized that I still need time to recover from my knee problems," explained Sinner, who is "sad and disappointed."
Due to the injury, the ATP world number one had already had to withdraw from the Masters tournament in Cincinnati. The Italian's last match was his victory over Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final in mid-July.
Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, is back: The defending champion is fit again after a wrist injury sustained in Barcelona four months ago (all info >>>).
