Challenger Final for Joel Schwärzler

Joel Schwärzler wins in the semi-finals of Grodzisk Mazowiecki with 3:6, 7:6(5) and 6:4 against world No. 359, Frenchman Mathys Erhard.

In the first set, Schwärzler missed three consecutive break points at 1:1. In the next game, the situation was exactly the opposite. Erhard, however, converted his third break chance. The remaining serves of the set were all held, resulting in a 3:6 finish.

Unbeaten in Tie-breaks

The second set went into a tie-break without any service breaks. It was already the Vorarlberger's fourth of the tournament. He had not lost any of them. The ÖTV ace maintained this streak and also won this tie-break 7:5.

In the final set, he once again demonstrated excellent timing. It was only at 4:4 that the Vorarlberger got a break point, which he immediately converted. In the following game, he successfully held his serve and, after 2 hours and 17 minutes, converted his first match point.

New Career High

By reaching the final, Schwärzler achieves a new personal best in the ATP world rankings. In the live ranking, he rises to 158th place. A tournament victory would even secure his first entry into the Top 150.

In the final, the 20-year-old will play against Italian Andrea Guerrieri (ATP No. 213) for his third singles title at ATP Challenger level.
