Oberleitner Misses Semi-Finals in Hangzhou

Neil Oberleitner misses out on reaching the semi-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Hangzhou.

The 27-year-old Viennese player, alongside his Czech partner Petr Nouza, was defeated in the quarter-finals by the Dutch duo Sander Arends and David Pel with a score of 3:6, 6:3, 6:10. Oberleitner/Nouza were seeded number two in China.

Early Break Puts Dutchmen on Course

The start was far from ideal for Oberleitner and Nouza. The favourites had to concede a break already in their first service game.

At a score of 1:3, the Austrian-Czech duo had a chance for a rebreak, but it remained unused. Arends/Pel subsequently held onto their lead and secured the first set with 6:3.

Oberleitner/Nouza Force Deciding Set

The second set proved to be much more balanced. At 3:2, Oberleitner/Nouza finally managed the decisive break to make it 4:2, with the Dutchmen contributing significantly with two double faults.

Subsequently, the Viennese player and his partner had to fend off a total of three break points but managed to carry their lead over the finish line. The second set went to Oberleitner/Nouza with 6:3.

However, in the match tie-break, the Dutchmen got off to the better start. Thanks to four mini-breaks, Arends/Pel quickly pulled away to 6:1. Oberleitner/Nouza rallied once more and narrowed the gap to 4:6, but could no longer turn the tide. The match tie-break went to the Dutchmen with 10:6.

With this, Oberleitner misses out on his twelfth semi-final appearance on the ATP Tour in 2026.

Lucas Miedler still has a chance for the semi-finals in Hangzhou. The Austrian, top-seeded with his French partner Quentin Halys, will face Theodore Winegar (USA) and Jean-Julien Rojer (NED) in the quarter-finals.
