Gall drops to third place at Vuelta
In the time trial of the Vuelta's 18th stage, Gall loses seconds to the two leaders, as expected.
Felix Gall drops to third place in the general classification at the Spanish Grand Tour.
In the individual time trial, the East Tyrolean loses his second place to Primoz Roglic. The 28-year-old finishes 1 minute 28 seconds behind Roglic and 55 seconds behind Enric Mas. However, he can defend his podium spot against Oscar Onley and Richard Carapaz.
The lost seconds are not a major setback for the Giro d'Italia runner-up. In time trials, Gall is generally considered weaker compared to his direct competitors.
Two mountain finishes on the agenda
The red jersey remains with local favourite Mas. He is now 1:37 minutes ahead of Roglic and 3:17 minutes ahead of Gall.
Swiss rider Stefan Küng takes the stage win for Tudor Pro Cycling Team with a three-second lead over Callum Thornley.
However, things will get serious for Austria's cycling star in the next two days. Two highest-category mountain finishes await the cyclists. Here, Gall could once again attack Roglic's second place, at least.
The only disadvantage: Following Gregor Mühlberger's injury a few stages ago, he has to do without his super-domestique.
