Bitter news for basketball star Ben Simmons: The Sacramento Kings' new signing suffered an Achilles tendon tear during practice.
First Pick and Rookie of the Year
The 30-year-old point guard already missed last season due to back problems.
Over the summer, the Australian garnered interest from several teams and ultimately signed a one-year contract in Sacramento.
Simmons was selected as the first player in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. In 2018, he was awarded "Rookie of the Year".
Only One Playoff Appearance Since 2006
The Kings finished last season with 22 wins and 60 losses. The team last made it to the playoffs in 2023. It was also Sacramento's only playoff appearance since 2006.
Simmons' injury comes shortly before the start of the season and is a major setback for the Kings' aspirations.
"I've always found a way to get back up"
The Australian addressed his injury in his Instagram story: "This injury is another chapter in my journey, not the end of my story." Simmons continued: "I've always found a way to get back up. This time will be no different."
