King of the Sachsenring! Marc Marquez matches MotoGP record
The superstar celebrates his 13th race win across all classes in Germany, his tenth in the premier class. He thereby equals a legend.
Marc Marquez remains the King of the Sachsenring!
The Ducati superstar wins the German Grand Prix for the 13th time across all classes, marking his tenth race victory in MotoGP.
The Spaniard thus matches the records of the legendary Giacomo Agostini, who triumphed just as often in Germany between 1965 and 1977.
Brother and "DiGia" in the gravel trap
On his favorite track, the 33-year-old had already led a Ducati triple victory in Saturday's Sprint, finishing ahead of Alex Marquez and Fabio di Giannantonio.
Neither of them made it to the finish line this time. Alex Marquez slid out over the front wheel into the gravel trap in the last corner. "DiGia" similarly threw his Ducati into the gravel at Turn 10. The Italian had already suffered a high-speed crash in the morning warm-up.
Two Aprilias on the podium
At the last Grand Prix before the three-week summer break, Marquez therefore shares the podium with Aprilia-Trackhouse riders Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez, who once again demonstrated their impressive form.
Ogura had celebrated his first MotoGP victory at the last Grand Prix in Assen.
Acosta narrowly misses the Top 3
Pedro Acosta narrowly missed the podium, with the KTM young star crossing the finish line in fourth place. Behind him, World Championship leader Jorge Martin finished in fifth place and is now ahead of Marc Marquez and Ogura in the riders' standings. Both are 18 points behind.
Martin's teammate Marco Bezzecchi was unable to participate after a heavy crash in Saturday's qualifying, with the Italian having already undergone surgery in his home country.
The Motorcycle World Championship now takes a well-deserved break, with the British Grand Prix taking place in Silverstone from August 7 to 9.
