Tyrolean motorsport driver Lucas Auer, along with his German teammates Maro Engel and Luca Stolz, prematurely secured the overall victory in the GT World Challenge Endurance Cup.

A fourth-place finish was enough for the Winward Mercedes drivers on Sunday in the three-hour race at the Nürburgring. The Austrian and his teammates currently hold a 27-point lead over their rivals.

For Engel and Stolz, it marks their second title; for Auer, the victory is a first. "That was simply a very consistent championship. Many thanks to Mercedes and my teammates. Winning the title prematurely means a lot to me. I am very happy to have won my first Endurance title," the Tyrolean is quoted by the "Salzburger Nachrichten".

He adds: "Now we will continue to push for the Sprint Cup and the overall cup." The season finale is scheduled for October 17 in Portimão.
