Confirmed! Carlos Sainz makes decision on his F1 future
The Spaniard had been linked with a move away from Williams in recent weeks. Now he has made a decision.
Ahead of the upcoming race weekend in Zandvoort, traditional Formula 1 team Williams announces its next future decision.
Following the extension with former Red Bull driver Alexander Albon (all info >>>), the British racing team now also brings clarity regarding its second regular driver.
As announced by Williams on Wednesday, Carlos Sainz has signed a new contract. The new deal is expected to tie the 31-year-old to the racing team long-term. The team did not provide details on the exact contract duration.
"Firmly believe in the team"
In recent weeks and months, Sainz had repeatedly been linked with a departure, with Audi, in particular, reportedly showing interest in the Spaniard. However, the former Ferrari driver, who will drive for Williams from 2025, has now committed long-term to the British racing team.
"I am absolutely thrilled to announce my continued journey with the Williams F1 Team family! I firmly believe in the people who make up this team – both at the factory and at the racetracks – and in the investments and hard work being done behind the scenes," Sainz said about his extension.
"Together, we have everything it takes to turn the tide. I am as determined as I was on day one to help bring Williams back to where the team belongs, and I look forward to creating many more memories with the team," added the Spaniard, who currently sits 15th in the World Championship driver standings with six points.
