Ferrari dominates practice opener in Monza
Charles Leclerc sets the pace in the first practice for Ferrari's home race.
Ferrari gets off to a perfect start at its home race in Monza.
Charles Leclerc sets the fastest lap in the first free practice, relegating teammate Lewis Hamilton to second place.
He clocked a time of 1:23.008 minutes, putting him a good one and a half tenths of a second ahead of his teammate.
Antonelli only fifth
George Russell takes third place in the Mercedes, followed by Hadjar's replacement Liam Lawson and Kimi Antonelli.
In the overall World Championship standings, Antonelli leads by 59 points over teammates Russell and Hamilton. However, this cushion is in danger because the Silver Arrow young star has to start from the back of the grid due to an unauthorized engine change.
"In a way, it helps to take the pressure off. Although, of course, I would much rather fight for pole position and start from the front. But somehow, it makes me feel a bit more relaxed for the weekend," said Antonelli.
