Pierre Gasly sensationally snatches pole position in Monza.

Six years after his maiden victory at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, the Frenchman will start from first place for the first time.

The Alpine driver overtook George Russell (+0.060) in the final moments of Q3. Oscar Piastri, who botched his final attempt and thus didn't give Lando Norris a slipstream, finished third (+0.180). The Briton, on the other hand, was a disappointing ninth (+0.470).

The two Ferraris, who just barely made it into Q3, will start from fourth (Leclerc) and fifth (Hamilton). Max Verstappen finished sixth (+0.284). Championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli finished seventh, but will start from the back due to an engine change.

Lawson only 14th in Qualifying

Gabriel Bortoleto narrowly missed out on Q3. The Audi driver was just one thousandth of a second shy of Hamilton in Q2. Teammate Nico Hülkenberg finished 13th, while Oliver Bearman (Haas) managed to slot in between.

The qualifying session ended disappointingly for the second Red Bull driver: Liam Lawson, finishing 14th, failed to make the cut for the final qualifying segment.

The Cadillacs and Aston Martins were once again far down the order. Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso finished only 22nd and 21st. Yuki Tsunoda (Racing Bulls) and Alexander Albon (Williams) were also eliminated in Q1.

The main race in Zandvoort will follow on Sunday (from 3:00 PM in the LIVE ticker >>>)
