Red Bull Salzburg strengthens with former NHL forward
The Canadian brings experience from nearly 100 NHL games to the Salzach.
EC Red Bull Salzburg reacts to the unsatisfactory start to the season and strengthens its offense with Ty Rattie.
The 33-year-old Canadian brings experience from 98 NHL games (30 points) to the Salzach. In 2019, the winger ventured across the Atlantic, playing his first European season in Russia with Yaroslavl and Novgorod.
From the Finnish Liiga, Rattie moved to Sweden, where he played in the SHL for Timra IK and Linköping HC.
Best Foreigner in Sweden, Champion in Switzerland
In Sweden's top league, the former NHL second-round pick recorded a strong 179 points (82 goals, 97 assists) in 245 games. In 2023/24, he scored the most points of all foreign players.
Last January, Rattie transferred from Linköping to Switzerland's HC Fribourg-Gotteron, with whom he ultimately also won the championship title. In Switzerland, Rattie had three goals and six assists in 13 games.
Ex-defender Genoway facilitated Rattie's move
Due to the birth of his son in the summer, the forward waited a bit longer with his club search. "We were all the more pleased about the offer from Salzburg," says Rattie.
He had always perceived Salzburg as a successful organization, and contact was made via ex-defender Chay Genoway. "The mutual interest was immediately there, and I'm happy to have signed in Salzburg," says the Canadian.
The veteran sees himself as an offensive force and accordingly wants to contribute to the offense. "At the same time, I have honed my game to also act reliably defensively and be a complete 'two-way player'."
Coach Alan Letang describes his new protégé as follows: "Ty is an intelligent player with a pronounced offensive instinct; he uses his vision and game understanding to create time and space at high speed."
