Late Victory! Capitals celebrate comeback win over Pustertal
Despite trailing twice in their home game, the Capitals ultimately secured a victory. Jeremy Gregoire emerged as the match-winner in the final phase.
The Vienna Capitals celebrate a 3-2 home victory over HC Pustertal in the tenth round of the win2day ICE Hockey League.
The first period initially saw a fairly balanced exchange. However, precision was lacking on both sides for an early goal.
It wasn't until the second period that goals were scored. First, the "Wolves" had reason to celebrate. JC Lipon put the puck over the line from close range during a powerplay after a Bourque stick infraction (36./PP1).
However, the Capitals successfully responded to the deficit before the second intermission. Linden Vey converted a penalty shot with a semi-high shot into the left corner to equalize at 1-1 (40./PS).
Capitals Stage a Comeback in the Third Period
However, the Viennese team initially had to concede a deficit again in the third period. Gerry Fitzgerald once again gave the South Tyroleans the lead during a powerplay after a Bourque penalty, with a shot into the top corner (47./PP1).
But the Capitals showed strong morale and turned the 1-2 deficit into a victory. Nick Bailen completed a pass combination during a powerplay to make it 2-2 (53./PP1), before Jeremy Gregoire paved the way for the 3-2 victory in another powerplay (58./PP1).
