Crucial Win! 99ers celebrate overtime victory at Fehervar
The Grazers initially squandered a 2-0 lead, but still managed to clinch an away victory. Chris Collins scored a brace.
The Graz99ers secured a 3-2 overtime victory against Fehervar in the tenth round of the win2day ICE Hockey League.
The Grazers celebrated an early lead. Chris Collins scored with a deflection after a Cheek stick-foul on the power play to make it 1-0 for the reigning ICE champion (5th minute/PP1).
Furthermore, Jakob Lippitsch coolly slotted the puck into the far corner for a 2-0 lead in the first period (15th minute). However, the Hungarians managed to pull one back, making it 1-2, thanks to Benjamin Zloty and a Ganahl tripping penalty on the power play (19th minute/PP1).
Fehervar Fights Back Against Graz
Consequently, Fehervar exerted increased offensive pressure in the second period and also managed to equalize at 2-2. Csongor Ambrus completed a spectacular counter-attack before the second intermission (37th minute).
After that, the Styrians emerged from the locker room with more attacking intent and created several chances. Nevertheless, the Hungarians also posed a goal threat with their counter-attacks. The score eventually remained 2-2, before overtime provided the decision in favor of the Grazers.
Collins' Brace Brings Joy to the Styrians
A substitution error by the Hungarians gave the Grazers a great chance to win. Ultimately, Collins scored the game-winning goal, securing the Styrians' two points in Hungary (64th minute/PP1).
Thus, the Grazers return to winning ways before their final CHL game on Wednesday against Norwegian champions Storhamar.
