Capitals Returnee Schnetzer: "The injury was very complex"

The Vienna Capitals can cross another name off the injury list

Ramon Schnetzer celebrated his comeback after an injury break of around one and a half months in the 2:3 overtime loss in Graz.

The Vorarlberg native injured his foot already during the first official ice practice of the Viennese in early August, when a teammate unfortunately fell on him. A ligament in his ankle was torn in the process.

"The injury was very complex and will bother me for a long time to come," the defenseman reveals to LAOLA1. Schnetzer says: "It's an awkward spot in the skate, also for many movements on the ice."

Taking it day by day

Upon his return to action, he felt good considering the circumstances. "I'm incredibly happy to be able to play again. Given when it happened, I'm very happy with how I'm doing now," says the ÖEHV national team player.

Even on the ice, little impairment was visible. Coach Mike Stewart confirms: "We wanted to manage his minutes, but he looked good. I believe he will get more responsibility on Saturday (against Milano HC, ed. note)."

Schnetzer doesn't venture a prognosis. While his foot might not cause problems shortly after the game, that could change quickly. "I have to take the injury day by day. If I feel good, I play - otherwise I'll reduce the workload."

Loss annoys Schnetzer

However, his comeback was overshadowed by an annoying defeat.

"A point is a point, but we have to win a game like that if we want to go far in the season," says the Feldkirch native. The Capitals led until shortly before the end, but still lost the game after overtime.

Schnetzer emphasizes: "When it's that close, especially in overtime, we have to defend better and not let such good players get into those positions."

Defeating the champions is certainly not easy. But: "We had the win on the table today. We showed a good performance, but it's a shame when more was possible," says Schnetzer.
