The Belgian Football Association reacted with disbelief to FIFA's decision to overturn Folarin Balogun's Round of 16 suspension.

The US striker was shown a straight red card in the Round of 32 match against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Instead of an automatic suspension, Balogun will now receive a one-year probation.

In a statement, it was said that they were "stunned" by Balogun's eligibility to play and are examining legal action.

The Belgians pointed out that, according to World Cup regulations and the FIFA Disciplinary Code, a red card automatically results in a suspension for the next match. FIFA's decision therefore contradicts the applicable regulations.

Head Coach: "Didn't know it was April 1st"

National coach Rudi Garcia also expressed his surprise: "I didn't know that July 5th was April 1st. The Belgian FA is not only defending itself, but also football and its integrity."

However, he emphasized: "As a coach, I will focus on my team."
